Assemblymember Feuer, the author of Assembly Bill 52, announced today that there are not enough votes in the Senate to give us the authority to reject excessive rate hikes and pass the bill at this time.Until a majority of the Senators support giving the state the authority to reject excessive health insurance increases, we will continue to see substantial rate increases, while families and businesses struggle financially.
I cannot thank you enough for your emails, calls and tremendous efforts in support of AB 52. Despite aggressive lobbying by the insurance industry, we came a long way in moving one of the most important bills of the year all the way to the Senate Floor. This is a very good place from which to start when the Legislature resumes in January.
We will continue to work over the next months to convince more Senators to vote for this bill at the beginning of next year. Please continue to voice your support of this bill. We urge you to share your stories about the impact of excessive health insurance increases with your Senator.
Thank you for joining me in this fight.

Thanks to your calls, emails and letters in support of Assembly Bill 52, one of the most important bills of the year cleared a major hurdle at the end of last week.In a 6-3 vote, AB 52 (Feuer and Huffman) successfully passed the Senate Appropriations Committee. This was a tremendous victory in getting the bill one step closer to passage.
Now, with the bill on the Senate Floor, we need your help now more than ever.During my time in the Legislature, I authored the bill to give the Insurance Commissioner the authority to reject excessive health insurance rates three times.Last year, the bill got further in the process than the previous years - to the Senate Floor, the same place we find ourselves now.It failed on the Senate Floor the final night of session - just a few votes short of getting to the Governor's desk.
It is now time to finally pass this important consumer protection measure. Today, we know that...
Proposition 103, which gave the Insurance Commissioner the authority to reject excessive rates for auto and homeowners insurance, has saved consumers billions of dollars in excessive auto and home insurance premiums.
Health insurance premiums have been rising dramatically yearafter year, far outpacing the increases in medical inflation and wages.
The number of uninsured Californians has risen from 6 million to 8 million since I first authored the bill in 2007.
And, to date, 34 other states have already established this authority to reject excessive health insurance rates hikes.
We must also remember that 2014 is quickly approaching. This is the year when Americans will be required by law to purchase health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.California's Insurance Commissioner and the Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) need the authority to reject excessive rate hikes now.Senator Dianne Feinstein called this authority a "missing piece of federal health care reform."Senators Feinstein and Boxer, the California Democratic Congressional Delegation and the California Democratic Party all support AB 52, as do consumer and healthcare organizations, labor unions and small business organizations.
Dave Jones: Help prevent excessive health insurance premiums!
One of the

health insurance rate increases before they go
into effect. Due to the intense lobbying of

the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Arthritis is a condition where damages to the joints of the body occur. There can be different forms of arthritis and each of them can be caused by various reasons. The most common form is osteoarthritis which is a degenerative joint disease. It is the result of some trauma to the joint, infections or old age. Among the other types of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, which are autoimmune diseases where the body attacks itself. Septic arthritis occurs due to joint infection. Deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint causes inflammation and leads to gouty arthritis. When rhomboid crystals of calcium pyrophosphate are formed in the joints, pseudo gout occurs.
If one is asked to take gin-soaked raisins for treating arthritis, one is bound to think of the idea as silly. However, those who have got relief by following this procedure swear by it. It is supposed to be an effective cure and an old folk remedy for arthritis. One needs to take a box of golden raisins, not the black ones, and place them in a container. The raisins are to be covered with gin and left for a few weeks. This helps the raisins to soak in the gin. When the gin evaporates, one can start eating nine of these raisons everyday till the arthritis gets cured.
It can take six weeks or more to get relief from arthritis after consuming the gin and raisins. One has to be patient and consistent in consuming the remedy. Ideally, no substitutions should be done in the recipe. Nobody is sure how this remedy started. Till date, there have been no studies to prove the effectiveness of the remedy but certain theories put forward reasons for the remedy to be successful.
According to some, it is the sulfur or sulphides that are used while preparing the golden raisins that help in reducing arthritis. The enzymatic browning that occurs normally in a grape is reduced by treating a fresh grape with sulfur dioxide gas. The raisin is then preserved in a golden color. Some think it is the juniper berries that are used in gin that are beneficial for treating arthritis. The juniper berries are rich in Vitamin C and terpenes. Terpene is an essential oil which is used to manufacture turpentine. Juniper berries have long been used in anti-inflammatory prescriptions.
Many others swear by the raisins. According to them, it is not the gin-soaked raisins that are helping in curing arthritis. Grapes and raisins have many anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory and pain relieving chemicals. The cure that occurs from taking gin-soaked raisins can also be due to the placebo effect. It is an accepted fact that when people strongly believe in some form of treatment or remedy, the endorphins and natural pain mediators present in the body get enhanced.
Again, arthritis is characterized by periods of flares and remissions. One can always take a remission period as being cured by the gin and raisins. One should never start a new form of remedy without first consulting a doctor. If one gets relief from the pain of arthritis by consuming gin and raisins, one should not stop using the standard medications.
